10/15/2019 – DEMOCRATIC DEBATE

The event will be in English.

Who will be the chosen one?

Whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican, or a neutral observer (do those still exist?) you can join others of these different persuasions to watch the next Democratic presidential debate of the 2020 campaign at the American Club of Buenos Aires next Tuesday, October 15th.  The party’s fourth sanctioned debate will be shown live on a big screen at the Club beginning at 9 PM Buenos Aires time.  The bar will be open for beer, wine and spirits together with a selection of picadas and other munchies.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who maintains a polling lead overall, will take center stage, flanked by Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT). The debate will be hosted by CNN and the New York Times and be held at Otterbein University, outside of Columbus, Ohio with CNN anchors Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper and New York Times national editor Marc Lacey serving as moderators.

Sen. Bernie Sanders was hospitalized October 1st after experiencing chest pain on the campaign trail, and underwent an emergency procedure to insert two stents. His campaign has said the senator is recovering well, but has not indicated how long he will be off the trail and has subsequently cancelled upcoming appearances.

To make it onto the stage in October, Democratic candidates had to raise donations from 130,000 people and earn 2 percent support in four polls approved by the Democratic National Convention between June 28th and 11:59 p.m. Eastern on October 1st. Both Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and San Francisco billionaire Tom Steyer qualified for the fourth debate, after coming in short on making it to the stage in September.

The 12 candidates on stage will be:
